After spending a night not sleeping, she wakes up before the sunrise. she tries to go and take showers but there are plenty of insects in the shower, the water is cold and she is alone bored out of her mind the first night she spent in Masego. When everyone finally woke up, they all got ready, they ate and its time for work. Dingane and Sophie are teaching classes, Karina is taking care of the babies, Charles is fixing the run-down buildings containing the children and everyone else is taking care of more children, cleaning and laundry of the orphanage. In class, Sophie feels an enormous force attracting her to Dingane. She couldn't explain it because he was rude to her and she thought he hated her. while one child was confused about the lesson, Sophie helped him through his trouble's. She felt so helpful and excited for helping someone other than herself. Dingane could not stop looking at her throughout the entire class which was from 8 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon. After classes they went to eat dinner than went out to help on a fence Dingane was building way before Sophie's arrival. they finally talked for real. she found out that his real name is Ian. he started to actually like her but wouldn't admit. after a few weeks went by, they had a surprise attack from a far away village that needed Masego's help with the children. it was in the middle of the night and Sophie was obligated to go to replace Karina who was supposed to prepare the aid she needed to help the children in need of taking care of. when Sophie, Ian, Charles and a few other workers jumped on the Jeep, it was a 1 hour and 30 minutes drive to the attacked village. in the car, Sophie asked if what she was about to see, she would never forget. They were going to be truthful to her, and it was a yes. what she was about to see was something that could scar a person for life. when they finally arrived to the village, ian, Charles and other workers got out of the cars with multiple weapons. Charles and other went in their separate directions to help aid little children. Ian and Sophie ran to a young girl who had holes in her chest and was bleeding excessively. Sophie examined her while holding the blood down. she predicted that the girl was only about 7 or 8 years old and she laid there next to her dead mother a surfeit amount of blood. the look on her face was like a stick figure. she had no expression on her face. Sophie could not stop crying. when everyone went back to the cars with about 30 children lying down sleeping or either injured horribly and are crying. some stayed behind because they did not want to leave their dead parents side. when they returned, everyone was running to the aid of the children to change what they used to cover the bloods from dripping out of their tiny little bodies. Sophie was afraid and traumatized about what she just happened. she asked herself "does this happen often?". she felt horrible about thinking how she wanted to go home and stay in her bed with her italian sofa and greek sheets and pilllow. she found something in common with these children, she was lost just as they were. she had no parents and nothing to guide her. after all the children went to sleep and their wounds were stitched up, they all went to sleep.
This is such a distressing story. Its kind of gruesome too.
